We have been in the music business for over 80 years, established in 1930 in downtown Chicago. Over the years we have been proud to partner with independent vendors and mainstream vendors alike. This is what makes our store unique! We carry DR Handmade Strings, Yamaha Official Dealer Keyboards, and Drums too. We've been with MESA/Boogie for over 4 years.
Shop Vibe
Our shop is not just a retail store as we offer a complete instrument repair shop, instrument rentals to almost one thousand students in Chicagoland, and music lessons with a renowned music faculty! The luthiers that repair instruments have been at Kagan and Gaines since the beginning of the store in downtown Chicago. Instrument programs through the surrounding school districts are exploding, and we are so proud of the young students who are investing hours into learning the arts!
The music lessons we offer are both private and group lessons. For the individual who is seeking to grow a career, or for the local band that would like to rehearse and learn some new music, our studios are available and ready to serve the next up and coming musicians!

Our customers don't just come from the surrounding neighborhoods, but from all of Chicagoland, and across the nation! Through word of mouth, we are one of the first stores to be contacted for the gigging musician who needs to rent an instrument.
