MESA/Boogie® Lone Star® Special™ ~ Customer Built Custom Hardwood
Custom Hardwood Lone Star Special Head and 1x12 Cabinet built by a Mesa Customer (click to enlarge)
Mesa Enthusiast, Customer and obvious woodworker extraordinaire, Josh Skow, shared some pictures and thoughts on his personally designed custom built cabinets for his Lone Star Special Head and Cabinet. This fine piece of woodworking art was featured at the Iowa State Fair this year and won Best of Show in the woodworking division.
Here's some details of the process from Josh:
"The design and build-out was actually a collaborative effort on the part of myself and a good friend. We worked together to design, modify, and construct the cabinets. His name is Aaron Crabb and is a hobby woodworker and engineer by trade.
I am an architect by trade and have always loved dabbling in design...whatever format it comes by. After purchasing the Lone Star Special as a combo, my friend and I knew it was the perfect component to be housed in custom head & speaker cabinets. So, I started designing and making shop drawings while he gathered the woods we desired and offered helpful suggestions to make the design more obtainable from a woodworking standpoint. The actual process, as we both have other "full-time" jobs, took us over a year.
The walnut is an Iowa native tree he cut down himself a few years ago. The other woods used were maple, ebony and burl walnut. I obviously bought the hardware as to keep the sweet Mesa branding front and center. The folks at Mesa were awesome in helping me get whatever I needed as well as giving me advise along the way.
So, long story short...this was a labor of love. My wife even loves having it out in our living room since it doesn't exude the usual "music room" vibe. That's a bonus for any guy who hates hauling his amp around the house!"
Absolutely stunning project, Josh. Mesa is truly honored to be at the center of such a striking piece of woodworking art!
